I'm so glad you're here.
If you've found your way to Lamb Light Cottage, chances are we already have something in common. Maybe you love spending an afternoon creating art, writing, reading, or simply finding beauty in the little things that often go unnoticed.
My hope is that when you visit, it feels less like browsing a website and more like stepping into a welcoming cottage—where there's always another painting on the easel or drawing on the table, and dreams of slower days spent doing the things that matter most.
My name is M. Marie Knapp, and I've spent most of my life creating.
I'm a graduate of the Academy of Art University and have continued my education through courses and programs in surface pattern design, children's writing and illustration, photography, design, and other creative fields.
I'm an artist, illustrator, surface pattern designer, and author who loves working in both traditional and digital mediums. Whether I'm painting wildlife, illustrating a children's book, creating a new pattern collection, or writing the next chapter of a story, I've discovered that every creative pursuit begins much the same way—with curiosity, an idea, and a blank page.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of illustrating children's books, creating artwork for clients, studying illustration and writing, and publishing my own work. Yet no matter where creativity has taken me, my greatest joy has remained the same: creating things that encourage people to slow down, notice beauty, and remember the wonder that's still all around us.
The name isn't just a brand. It's a picture of the life I hope to cultivate—a place where art and books are well loved, creativity is celebrated, faith quietly shapes the way we see the world, and everyone is welcome to pull up a chair and stay awhile.
The name also has roots in remembrance of two people who meant so much to me: my grandmother, who raised me, and her sister, my dear Aunt Stuart, who affectionately called us children "lamb."
It is also a reflection of my deep faith—the Lamb of God—and of the light these beloved people brought into my life.
"Cottage" comes from my love of old English farmhouse cottages, particularly those found throughout the Cotswolds and Sussex, and from my desire to create a place that always feels a little like home.
At Lamb Light Cottage, you'll find original artwork and illustration created in both traditional and digital mediums, along with surface pattern designs inspired by nature, animals, landscapes, botanicals, and the beauty of everyday life.
You'll also find books, occasional reading recommendations, news from my studio, and thoughts from the Cottage Journal.
And in the Lamb Light Cottage shop, you'll find ways to bring some of my work home with you through original art, prints, cards, books, apparel, and other products featuring my designs.
Whether you're here because of the art, books, surface design, the shop, or you simply happened upon Lamb Light Cottage while wandering around online, I hope you'll find something here that encourages or inspires you.
Thank you for stopping by. The door is always open.
Until next time, keep creating, keep reading... and I'll meet you back at Lamb Light Cottage.

When I’m not creating artwork at Lamb Light Cottage, you’ll often find me writing. Lamb + Oak is my other little corner of the internet—a place where I share more personally about my faith, home, simple living, and finding joy and gratitude in the everyday. If you’d like to get to know a little more about the person behind the art, I’d love to have you visit me there.
